My best Facebook Suppliers of 2012 – with a Big Thank You

When I first started this blog, one of my earliest posts recommended some of my favourite food suppliers who understand social media and interacting with their customers.  In the two years since then, Twitter and Facebook have become more and more essential for any business wishing to succeed. Why, even the BBC tweets these days…it is totally establishment now.

Yet not everyone understands how to use social media. I still find companies who list their Facebook page or their Twitter identity on their company website, probably because they have been told to by their PR company. But they say nothing to you if you try to interact with them, they just pop adverts on from time to time, treating it as if it is a newspaper advert but cheaper.

Well, they are so wrong. I am sure they will catch up in time, but for the time being, the people who do understand will be getting my business and my vote. Here are some of my favourites from the last year – this is just a small selection of the people I talk to, a very personal pick.  I didn’t want to go on and on and on and bore everyone, so please don’t feel offended if I haven’t included you. Maybe we aren’t chatting yet? So introduce yourself!! .

The Artisans

Brays Cottage Pies (@Brays_Cottage)

Gower Cottage Brownies  (@gowercottage)

Breckland Orchard Posh Pop  (@breckland)

These fabulous girls are all going very strong, expanding and so very busy. So busy that they can’t really tweet as often as a couple of years ago, but they will still happily natter to you if you start a conversation with them.

The Shopping Sites

I have discovered some ace new online shopping companies through Twitter and Facebook – not the big people, they don’t chat. The smaller more personal places, if you haven’t looked at any of these yet, you really should! :

Bakery Bits   @BakeryBits

The Flour Bin  @FlourBin

Unearthed Foods  @foodsunearthed

Fruit for the Office   @office_fruit

Essential Cuisine Stocks    @E_Cuisine

Wai Yee Hong Chinese Supermarket   @waiyeehong

Sous Chef    @souscheftweet

These are the kind of places you need to find, specialists who know all about their products, and are happy to guide you through their stock.  I am especially grateful to Fruit for the Office and The Flour Bin for providing me with samples to cook with, so helpful, and with such excellent results.

The PRs

I don’t yet work with a lot of PR people, but I have been working with a few in the last year who really understand their social media, and who have simply ace products under their belts because of this:

Total Greek Yoghurt   @TotalGreek

Red Communications   @fruitandvegboy

Growing Direct   @GrowingDirect

A HUGE thank you to everyone who has been supporting me this last year, here’s to you all going from strength to strength!
